My Throne Room Encounter
One day I was in my room worshipping – singing songs before the Lord when I had a vision of Father and Son in the Throne Room in Heaven. “Come” they spoke in unison.
I replied, “How do I get there”?
Immediately Hebrews 4:16 came to mind. “Hebrews 4:16 - Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
This Scripture means that all believers have access to the Throne of Grace. Under the Old Covenant only the High Priest was able to go into the Holiest of Holies and spend time in the presence of God. Jesus shed His blood to make atonement for us. The veil to the Temple was torn when Jesus died on the Cross. This means we all can come boldly to Gods throne, and into the presence of God – it is available to all who believe.
They replied, “Pray in tongues”. Likewise, the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God (Romans 8:26-27).
I prayed in tongues for around 5 minutes and wept and groaned in the Spirit as Holy Spirit made intercession on my behalf.
They spoke again, “Psalm 100 - Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.
Know that the Lord, He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him and bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.”
I then realised these were actual keys to activate the presence of God. I had already been singing to come before His presence, now I needed to enter His gates with thanksgiving and courts with praise.
I started to then thank Jesus for all He had done and thank Him for everything I could think of and thank Him for the trials that I was walking through that He would turn to good. I did this for a few minutes. I then started praising Him and saying, “Praise the Lord Jesus, praise You Father, Son and Holy Spirit” and then “Holy, holy holy is the Lord God forever. Who was, and is, and is to come” (Revelation 4:8). I did this for a few minutes also.
After this I then saw that I was in the Throne Room and was standing in front of Jesus and Father God. They outstretched their arms to me for a loving embrace. I stretched out mine but there was space between us.
I said, “How do I get closer?’
They spoke again in unison, “Answer these questions – 1) Are you worthy?
2) Do you enter Our presence through your own works of righteousness?”
I replied, “I am only worthy through the righteousness of Christ. My own works are filthy rags, and I cannot come before the Father without Your Blood covering me. Jesus, You made me right before God, You and You alone. Nothing I can do in my own strength will ever be good enough. Christ paid the price, so I didn’t have to. This however does not mean I am worthless Father God because my worth comes from the fact I am made in Your image. I am Your creation, and I am Your daughter, and You love me. In fact, You sent Your Son to die for me because of how much you love me. But not only this Lord, even though I have the righteousness of Christ covering me I need to still pursue righteousness. I need to resist the devil, so he flees from me.”
In that instant I was on the Fathers knee. I understood in that moment that God had taught me how ‘to seek first the Kingdom of Heaven and His righteousness before anything could be added unto me’ (Matthew 6:33). These are also Biblical keys on how we receive and many do not understand these concepts. If we have a feeling of shame or guilt, or unworthiness it can create a blockage between you and God as it prevents you ‘coming boldly before the throne of Grace’. It can mean that you are far from Him because in your heart you can believe you are not worthy, or in other cases some may believe they are entitled to all He has because of their own righteousness (which is pride and self-righteousness).
Whilst on His knee I saw myself as a small child. He had His arms around me and spoke “Little girl you needs healing from ‘lack of love from the father’ doesn’t she?” I started weeping and crying out ‘yes’. I again forgave my natural father for leaving the family unit when I was a child and forgave him for not giving me the protection, love and nurture I needed growing up. As I did this the healing presence of God enveloped me and I could feel the wounds ‘lack of love from the Father being healed.’ It was a physical tangible experience.
Just as worship can release the presence of God, this Biblical way of going deeper can open the door to Throne Room encounters. After this beautiful encounter the Lord would often prompt me to enter the Throne Room again in the same way He had taught me. At times, He has even led me to guide others through the process, so they too can encounter Him and receive ministry. These Throne Room experiences happen in His timing and by His Spirit - they are not something we can manufacture. They are sovereignly orchestrated by God. Using the keys found in Scripture, we can position our hearts to seek Him, but it is ultimately up to Him to open that realm to us. As we remove the common blockages that hinder intimacy with the Godhead, this biblical approach can begin a deeper process of encounter and healing.
SPECIAL NOTE - I believe that you too can experience a Throne Room Encounter, if and when God chooses to open this realm to you. It may come as a vision, a tangible moment in His presence, or even in a dream. You don’t need to follow any set formula, but this is the way He personally led me: begin by singing or worshipping, pray in tongues, give thanks, offer praise, declare that you are made righteous through the blood and sacrifice of Christ - then simply wait in His presence, ready for whatever He desires to reveal.
